Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease manifested in violation of carbohydrate metabolism. There are two main types of diabetes: type I diabetes and type II, caused by absolute or relative insulin deficiency.
Type II diabetes (Diabetes mellitus type II) is due to reduced sensitivity of tissues to insulin. The essence of type II diabetes is called insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is a condition in which the tissues (principally muscle and fat) are not sufficiently sensitive to insulin. The insulin in these tissues is responsible for the absorption of glucose into the cells. It performs its combustion and conversion into energy, and thus indirectly reduces its concentration in the blood. This type of Diabetes represents about 90% of all diseases of Diabetes.
High blood sugar (hyperglycemia), associated with inadequate treatment of diabetes, may cause the patient a number of unpleasant health issues. It is also worrying that 75% of type II diabetics die from one of these three diseases: myocardial infarction, stroke, ischemic disease of the lower extremities.
